Tell us about this book.
With New Eyes: The Power of Perspective is my second book and a true story. It shares the details of architecting a new life, Life 2.0. It is an entertaining, inspirational account of life change that shows you how to tap into the power of perspective in unique ways. Full of mishaps, bold decisions, sassy humor, and adventures, With New Eyes inspires you to conquer your fears, head for adventure, and embark on your own Life 2.0.
Who did you write your book for?
I wrote this book for anyone who is at a crossroads in his/her life. I believe that just like software, people occasionally need life updates, whether to improve features, fix bugs, correct course, or even a complete life overhaul.
Is there a central message in the book?
The power of perspective is the central message of both this book and my first, When All Balls Drop: The Upside of Losing Everything. Whatever situation you find yourself in, it could be your DNA, your boss’ mood, or a road-raged driver, you have little to no control. However, you do have the power to change the way you think about whatever the situation. There is a lesson in each circumstance. There are no wasted experiences. Every hurdle, wound, or life hiccup turns into wisdom through perspective.
What is the most important idea you are sharing in your book that will add value to the reader's life
With New Eyes shows you how to tap into the power of perspective in unique ways. Throughout the book, it reveals methods for seeing the world with new eyes from traveling solo to South America to learning a new sport or even jumping out of a plane. With New Eyes inspires readers to conquer fears and head for adventure.
Can you explain this quote from the book, “Adventure is my meditation?”
Although it sounds counter-intuitive, I call adventure my meditation. I define adventure as an activity that is physical, mental, emotional, or a combination of all. Sometimes it can be fearful, but it is in spite of the fear and all-encompassing execution of that activity that makes it an adventure. I have found that there is no better way than to whitewater raft, rent a car in a strange city, or even balance in a one-legged tree pose to gain mindfulness. Without that one-track focus, you can’t paddle through rapids, find your way with the radio playing and talking on the phone, or stay balanced. Adventure is a unique form meditation with the end result a shift of perspective.
What is this Life 2.0 that you talk about in With New Eyes?
Life 2.0 is a reference to software and the updates needed to improve the programs. When you embark on a life transformation Life 2.0 you get rid of the bugs, change your charted course, priorities, and perhaps a complete overhaul. The result is a truer path, your Life 2.0. However, beware that the work is never done. You must make sure to continually check in on this life 2.0 with frequent doses of perspective to monitor course or perhaps install another update.
If you could compare this book with any book out there we might already be familiar with, which book would it be and why?
With New Eyes is a hybrid between Cheryl Strayed’s Wild and Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. With New Eyes is a journey of architecting a new life. Instead of 1,000+mile hike, I combined traveling alone and actively seeking adventure in ways to tap into the power of perspective. Likewise Eat, Pray, Love was a self-discovery story about finding clarity, a new path, and love again. In With New Eyes, I designed my own path, along the way finding Mr. Wrongs, but also Mr. Right.
What is on the horizon for you?
My first book, When All Balls Drop, is transitioning to film; so, I would hope that this book would do the same. I’m currently writing my third book called Cubicle to Cuba, which features a humrous collection of stories about my travels to Cuba, Peru, New Zealand, Italy, and other far-flung places.
Where can readers find you and your book?
Readers can find my book on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and other online sellers. It is available in both print and eversions. Additionally, I host various events and signings through the year. This fall, I will be co-hosting the South Florida Writing Retreat in Fort Lauderdale this October 24th, which will focus on writing strategies, marketing techniques, and publishing solutions. Title: With New Eyes: The Power of Perspective
Author: Heidi Siefkas
Genre: Memoir / Inspiration
Heidi Siefkas lost her health, her career, and her marriage after she was struck by a one thousand-pound tree branch. While she made great strides in her physical and emotional recovery in the months that followed—an arduous process that she chronicled in When All Balls Drop—Heidi wasn’t content to merely survive her setbacks. The time was right to build a new life. One she could live on her own terms.
But what would a redesigned life look like? In her quest for answers, Heidi returned to her childhood home in Wisconsin, dove into the South Florida dating scene, revisited old flames in New England, sold her first home, jumped out of a plane, and traveled alone to South America. Every leg of her journey provided a healthy dose of perspective.
With New Eyes is full of mishaps and bold decisions, all seasoned with sassy humor. Through her signature down-to-earth vignettes, Heidi inspires you to conquer your fears, head for adventure, and be the captain of your own ship.
