A bit of both, so I guess that would make me a plontser. I have no idea where the story is going to go when I start writing, only a general idea. When I'm relaxed and can let my mind drift, usually over a cup of green tea or a glass of anisette, I reflect upon what I've written so far until the next scene comes in my head. I usually break up the story into scenes, one leading into the other. Sometimes a scene will come to me which is way down the path of the story, and I have to fit it in like patchwork.
Where did you get the inspiration for Girl Within Girl?
Inspiration came from my husband (also an undiscovered author), but the idea came from the true story of Candy Jones, a popular pinup girl of the 1940's, who, a decade later, ended up as a hypno-programmed spy for the CIA. I read a book, The CIA's Control of Candy Jones, by Donald Bain, and I thought this would make a good novel. Candy went on missions under an alter-ego called Arlene Grant, but Candy was unaware of what Arlene did. In other words she was a real life Manchurian Candidate.
Is this a series?
Yes it is. Book 1: Unraveling, is a rather light, entertaining treatment of this subject, but during the course of my research into the government's mind control program, MKULTRA, I began to see that the experiments, which were carried out on unwitting people in reputable hospitals, formed a more serious topic, especially after I read books by those who claim to have been victims. In Book 2: Healing, I will try to go into more detail on what exactly had been done to these people, but it will have a positive ending.
What is your daily page or word count record?
Oh dear, it ranges from 2000 words down to zero. There are days when either life gets in the way, or I just don't feel like writing. On average, maybe 10,000 words a month.
Please tell us a little about your book.
The book is dark erotica, yet a thriller at the same time, and the story weaves in and out of three lives of the same woman, each one full of unknown consequences, keeping the reader on edge as to what is going to happen next. In short, there is an entertainment element besides the sex scenes in glamorous situations - there is a strong plot, something not easy to find in erotica novels.
Another aspect of the story which would appeal to many readers is the ability to escape out of the ordinary humdrum of our lives.
Each of us has multiple sides to our personality. On top of that, many people have fantasies of being someone else and of doing things that go outside the boundaries of our day-to-day existence. For Katrina Novack, she can accomplish these things through her alter-egos of Cherry Cummins, the freelance photojournalist who travels to exotic places and meets many famous people, and Anisa Grant, a kick-ass spy assassin who succeeds in her missions through cold calculation and ruthless execution.
Who is your favorite author of all time?
That's an awfully difficult question, but if someone put a gun to my head and said "Choose ONE!" I would say Thomas Hardy. I wish I could have met him. From his stories he appeared to be a very sensitive man.
What are you working on at the moment?
I'm working on Book 2: Healing. I envision the series to comprise of three short novels. After the third one, I'll go on to something else. I do have other ideas in mind, and I can't wait to try them out.
